A delectable treat featuring soft, fluffy buns swirled with creamy cheese and vibrant currant jam, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 12 buns

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sweet cheese (cream cheese or ricotta)
  • ½ cup currant jam
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, salt, and remaining sugar. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
  5. Spread the sweet cheese evenly over the dough, then dollop currant jam on top.
  6. Roll up the dough tightly, then slice into equally sized pieces.
  7. Place the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and let rise for 20 minutes.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
  • You can substitute ricotta for cream cheese for a lighter flavor.
  • Adjust currant jam amount for preference – more for a sweeter filling.
