Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup sweet cheese (cream cheese or ricotta)
- ½ cup currant jam
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit until frothy.
- Add melted butter, egg, salt, and remaining sugar. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour and knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
- Spread the sweet cheese evenly over the dough, then dollop currant jam on top.
- Roll up the dough tightly, then slice into equally sized pieces.
- Place the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and let rise for 20 minutes.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
- Ensure milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
- You can substitute ricotta for cream cheese for a lighter flavor.
- Adjust currant jam amount for preference – more for a sweeter filling.
