Ingredients
Scale
- 400g (14 oz) dried penne pasta
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2-3 red chili peppers, sliced (adjust based on spice preference)
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes or pureed fresh tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the penne pasta until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sliced red chili peppers, sautéing for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes to develop flavors and thicken the sauce.
- Add cooked penne to the skillet with the sauce, toss to coat, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Pair with toasted bread or a fresh green salad.
Notes
- Adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing chili peppers and red pepper flakes.
- Use high-quality canned crushed tomatoes for the best flavor.
- For a smoky touch, add a pinch of smoked paprika to the sauce.
- Fresh basil enhances aroma and taste, so don’t skip it.
