Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
- 1 pack store-bought pizza dough (or homemade)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness and place on a baking sheet or pizza stone.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, until caramelized and golden brown (about 20 minutes). Add sugar halfway through to enhance sweetness.
- Pour in broth and simmer until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Remove from heat.
- Spread caramelized onions evenly over the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the onions.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and crust is golden.
- Garnish with additional thyme if desired. Slice and serve hot.
Notes
- Use sweet onions like Vidalia for best caramelization.
- Adjust the cheese amount for extra gooeyness.
- Can be made vegetarian by using vegetable broth.
