A flavorful French Onion Soup Pizza combining sweet caramelized onions, savory broth-infused cheese, and a crispy crust, making it the perfect comfort food.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 slices

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 pack store-bought pizza dough (or homemade)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness and place on a baking sheet or pizza stone.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, until caramelized and golden brown (about 20 minutes). Add sugar halfway through to enhance sweetness.
  3. Pour in broth and simmer until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Remove from heat.
  4. Spread caramelized onions evenly over the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the onions.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and crust is golden.
  6. Garnish with additional thyme if desired. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use sweet onions like Vidalia for best caramelization.
  • Adjust the cheese amount for extra gooeyness.
  • Can be made vegetarian by using vegetable broth.
