  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel and slice the potatoes, dice the onion, and mince the garlic.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until translucent.
  3. Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and paprika, cook until browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a baking dish. Spread half of the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes.
  5. Repeat with remaining potatoes and beef, creating layers.
  6. Pour milk or cream evenly over the layered ingredients. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Using russet potatoes yields a fluffier texture, but Yukon Gold potatoes add a buttery flavor.
  • For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • You can substitute different cheeses like Monterey Jack or mozzarella.
