  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 8 oz cooked pasta (penne or rigatoni)
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, cook ground beef or sausage until browned. Add chopped onion and garlic, cook until translucent.
  2. Transfer to the crockpot. Add broth, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  4. About 15 minutes before serving, stir in cooked pasta and dollops of ricotta cheese.
  5. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover and cook until cheese melts.
  6. Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.
