- 4 large russet potatoes, sliced
- 2 large onions, caramelized
- 2 cups shredded Gruyere or cheddar cheese

- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until golden and caramelized, about 20 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Top with half of the caramelized onions and sprinkle with cheese. Repeat layers.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
