  • Total Time: 1 hour 25 minutes
  • Yield: 1 standard loaf (10-12 slices)

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth. Add the softened butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until creamy and well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in nuts or chocolate chips if desired.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  5. Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best sweetness and moisture.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread tender.
  • Storing in an airtight container at room temperature keeps it fresh for 2 days.
  • Freeze slices wrapped tightly for up to 3 months to extend shelf life.
  • Reheat slices in the oven or microwave for a fresh bakery-style experience.
