Ingredients
- 3 large firm apples (Granny Smith or Fuji work well)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- Cooking spray or olive oil spray
Instructions
- Core and cut the apples into even-sized sticks, about 4 inches long and half an inch wide. Keep the skin on for added texture and nutrients.
- Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and the third with a mixture of panko breadcrumbs, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Dredge each apple stick first in the flour, then dip into the eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Place the coated apple sticks in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Spray lightly with cooking spray.
- Cook in the air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Notes
- Choose firm apples that hold their shape during cooking.
- Adjust the cinnamon and sugar amount based on your taste preference.
- For an extra crunchy coating, double coat the apple sticks before air frying.
- Experiment with different spices like allspice or pumpkin pie spice for varied flavors.
