Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or thinly sliced beef strips
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced into thin rounds
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth or stock
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Optional: shredded cheese, parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large ovenproof skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cook until fragrant and translucent. Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and paprika, cook until browned. Transfer beef mixture to a plate.
- In the same skillet, add a bit more olive oil if needed. Layer sliced potatoes evenly at the bottom. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme or rosemary. Spread cooked beef mixture over the potatoes.
- Pour beef broth evenly over the layers. Cover tightly with foil or a lid. Bake for 45-50 minutes until potatoes are tender and flavors meld.
- Remove cover, sprinkle shredded cheese if desired. Return to oven uncovered for another 10 minutes until cheese melts. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- Use thinly sliced potatoes for quicker cooking, or parboil before assembling for faster results.
- Choose lean ground beef or beef strips based on preferred texture and health considerations.
- Add vegetables like carrots or peas for extra nutrition and color.
- Adjust seasonings—paprika, thyme, rosemary—to customize flavor.
- Keep dish covered while baking to maintain moisture and ensure tender potatoes.
