Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 ½ cups bread crumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly pound each chicken breast to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch; season with salt and black pepper.
- Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, and basil.
- Dip each chicken breast into the flour, then the egg, and finally coat thoroughly with the bread crumb mixture.
- Place the breaded chicken breasts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a lightly greased baking rack.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Remove from the oven. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese, and return to the oven.
- Bake for an additional 5-8 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles. Optional: broil for 2 minutes for extra bubbly and browned cheese.
Notes
- Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
- Mix fresh herbs into the breadcrumb coating for enhanced flavor.
- Ensure chicken is evenly pounded for uniform cooking.
- For a crispier topping, broil for 2 minutes at the end.
