Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water
- 5 large apples, thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water gradually, mixing until dough comes together. Divide into two disks, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Roll out one dough disk on a floured surface and fit into a 9-inch pie dish.
- Fill with spiced apples, then roll out the second disk and cover the filling, creating a lattice or crust pattern.
- Trim and crimp edges. Brush with beaten egg for a shiny finish.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown. Cool before serving.
Notes
- Chill the dough thoroughly for a flaky crust.
- Adjust sugar according to apple sweetness.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
