- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking dish with parchment paper.
- Set up breading stations: Place flour in one dish, beaten eggs in another, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan, herbs, salt, and pepper in a third.
- Dip each chicken breast in flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture, pressing to coat well.
- Arrange breaded chicken on prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Remove from oven, spoon marinara sauce over each piece, and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- Return to oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot with pasta or a side salad.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs.
- Can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking.
