  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press half into the prepared pan.
  3. In a saucepan, toss apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Spread the apples evenly over the crust.
  4. Crumble the remaining shortbread mixture over the apples to form a topping.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before slicing.
