- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
- Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press half into the prepared pan.
- In a saucepan, toss apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Spread the apples evenly over the crust.
- Crumble the remaining shortbread mixture over the apples to form a topping.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before slicing.
Notes
- You can substitute pears for apples for a different flavor.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for an indulgent experience.
